Australia
has been blessed with wonderful, unique and iconic wildlife. This site is
dedicated to promoting its enjoyment and preservation.
Rainbow
Lorikeet, Tachyglossus haemotodus.
Preening
is an important part of every birds' routine. Lorikeets seem to luxuriate
in having this chore done by their partner, returning the 'favour' with equal
attention to detail. This activity is often followed by sleep, especially
when resting-up during the hottest part of the day.
They survive largely on a sugary diet, either directly as pollen from flowers
or from fruit which they crush with their beaks before licking up the juice.
