The
kangaroo, along with the emu, were selected for Australia's coat of arms because
they are never seen moving backwards, thus representing progress.
The kangaroo is the
iconic Australian animal and whilst they survive in huge numbers today (far
higher than before the arrival of Europeans) they can be difficult to see
away from rural areas. People still arrive in these shores expecting to see
them hopping through Sydney's main streets.
This photograph was taken at dusk in the Blue Mountains National Park in New
South Wales.
