Australia
has been blessed with wonderful, unique and iconic wildlife. This site is
dedicated to promoting its enjoyment and preservation.
Dingo,
Canis Lupus Dingo.
The
Dingo was introduced to Australia some 3000-4000 thousand years ago. Soon
after arriving they drove out the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) and the Tasmanian
Devil, probably due to their superior hunting ability. It is now Australia's
largest surviving carnivore.
For some they are still seen as an introduced species and a pest, for others
they are seen as endemic and beneficial for controlling introduced species
such as cats and rabbits.
This Dingo resides at the Australian Reptile Park near Sydney.
