The male King Parrot, is surely one of Australia's most magnificent birds. The
bright crimson colours of the head, chest and underparts make the bird easy
to spot when it is feeding quietly in trees.
It has a much 'quieter' personality than many other parrots but is still prone
to gathering in large groups where food is abundant. This often brings it
into conflict with farmers, who usually view the King Parrot as a pest.
Like all parrots it likes to nest in tree hollows. Unfortunately, land clearance
has greatly reduced the number of these potential breeding sites but for now
the King parrot's future is still secure.
Australia is fortunate to have wonderful, unique and iconic wildlife. This site is dedicated to promoting its enjoyment and preservation.
