Field Guides to the animals of Australia

| Australia has
more than 750 species of birds, 800 species of reptiles,
nearly 380 species of mammals; 85,000 types of insects (and still
counting) and countless species of fish. What's more, the land animals
are spread across an area 30 times the size of the UK. Thus it's
obvious why anyone with even a passing interest in the wildlife
of Australia will benefit enormously from a good field guide. However,
finding exactly the right book is more difficult than it might seem.
Book shops tend to stock quite a limited range and on-line stores
generally give quite scanty information about the books on offer.
And this is where this guide comes in. Firstly, I try to keep up-to-date with as many of the new publications as possible (you should see my bookshelves!) so that the information on these pages is as relevant as possible. Secondly, I try to make the reviews as comprehensive as I can so that you can make a really informed decision about which book will meet your needs. I have also collated the information for an easy to use comparison guide of what's on offer. Each book has been linked directly to Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk so that, should you wish to make a purchase, you can be assured of a speedy delivery and that the price you pay is not a penny more than it should be. This continent has spent the last 40 million years drifting alone through the southern seas, almost immune from outside influences. This is far longer than any other inhabited continent and the results on the fauna are clear for all to see. The wildlife of Australia is like nowhere else and has been affected by man like nowhere else. Hopefully a better appreciation of this wonderful resource will lead to more concerted action to save it. |
